A forester's Bible in hand
I learn to mete and measure land.
Reading the good word
Statistical precision's always assured
Because sampling design and stochasticity
Are my foundation's chromaticity
Used to paint a plan for inventory
To record the forest in all its glory.
Cruising and traversing
The trees and I always conversing
Greeting trees with tape and recording
Always sampling enough to be rewarding
Then attributes and values are poured into excel
Regression and error are the stats I compel
To build tables and predictions
To tease out conviction from contradiction
And perhaps most importantly
To encourage forests' conservancy.

Note to Self (Missed Connections)
Maybe I'll find the other people like me
when I get to grad school.
Or who knows.
Maybe I'm one of a kind
and I shouldn't strain my eyes so hard
looking for my duplicate.

Renewable Resources
Anxiety is defined as an earnest but tense desire,
But I know better.
Anxiety is momentum.
Both an invisible force that drives you to great things,
And a palpable drive that forces you to invisibility.
Anxiety is thought gravity,
An unrestrained force of nature trapped between two ears.
It puts a supernova's weight onto a singular thought;
All other thoughts roll towards your new obsession
Adding weight, increasing gravity, maximizing the pull.
Anxiety is a compulsion.
You strain against it to distract and beguile your mind
For a moment of peace in your own skin,
But it eventually culls your creativity and sensibility,
Browbeating once sane thoughts into the mass of fears.

Addicted (To ATP)
It's like you're a drug
It's like you're a nuclear power
It's like I'm stuck
It's like I'm working by you all the time
And I know I let you have all the power
It's like the only molecule I seek is phosphate all around
It's like you're energy
Putting the life in me
It's like I can't breathe
Without you inside of me
And I know I let you have all the power
And I realize I'm never gonna quit you over time
It's like I can't breathe
I need adenosine
Nothing with two
I'm addicted to you
It's like I can't think
Until I make triphosphate
In my cells
In myelin
You've taken over me
It's Adenosine
and phosphate makes three
It's like I'm lost
It's like I'm moving more slowly
It's like you're the power house, fueling me
Driving processes
And without you enzymes in my cells
Would die alone
And I know metabolism is
Driven by mitochondria.
It's like I can't breathe
I need adenosine
Nothing with two
I'm addicted to you
It's like I can't think
Until I make triphosphate
In my cells
In myelin
You've taken over me
It's Adenosine
and phosphate makes three
The potential
Energy
In this is high
Until you break off a
Phosphate
And then you use it.
Processes are driven
by kinetic energy
Which were stored before in strong phosphate bonds.
I'm hooked on you
I need a fix
I can't take it
Just one more hit
I promise I can deal with it
I'll handle it, quit it
Just one more time
Then that's it
Just a little bit more to get me through this
It's like I can't breathe
I need adenosine
Nothing with two phosphates.
I'm addicted to you
It's like I can't think
Until I make triphosphate.
In my cells
In myelin
You've taken over me
It's Adenosine

Spoof science lyrics to be sung to Kelly Clarkson's "Addicted".

The Final Adventure
Lay me down, bury me in the ground,
An unmarked grave, so I won't be found.
I have one request, I want to rest.
I'm ready, all my sins I have confessed.
More tired and worn than the day I was born,
I beg you to lay me beneath the Jerusalem thorn,
And let me wait for rebirth as it is fated.
Let me experience all that is debated.
I want to see her burst through the light.
Into Death's arms, I walk without fright.
I need no pyramid, no monument, no fuss.
For the living, what's left is for them to discuss.
The honest truth is that all I truly need
Is that moment when I know I'm freed.
And while to you, it seems like a risky venture,
To me, the rest is just an adventure.
Finally, a poem about death that isn't depressing and filled with suffering. I'm fascinated by the Reaper, Valkyrie, and Death. That's one of the reasons I love Hamlet so very much. It's an analysis of death and what it means to the living. Death is boring when it's viewed alone; same story for life. I'm not interested in immortality (whether it comes in this life or the afterlife, I think it's totally overrated and most likely a curse). However when you view Life and Death together, suddenly they're both very weighty and very intimidating (that's why people kill themselves, and it's the same exact reason people are afraid to die). One gives the other meaning. That is so fascinating to me...Kind of like hot and cold...or good and evil. But just way better than those combos.
Note: No, I don't happen to be goth or depressed. I'm just another weird poet with a fascination for the morbid.

We Are The Gods
In a beginning
Unpleasant as can be
There was blackness.
A sudden, stinging light
Blinding all worlds,
But there was no one there to see.
It was not long,
Night but a few billion years,
Merely a newborn land
Something grew,
Something unseen,
Something new.
The destroyer
And creator,
It was life.

Don't Want You Back
Don’t Don’t Don’t Want you back
You hit me faster than a staph attack.
I got your picture on the B cell facts, alright
And you were more than a cocci shape.
But how you fooled, me, I'm still amazed babe.
But I should have seen, what I would be:
Another victim of strept-oh-cocci.
But now you’re done, you’re over with.
DONT WANT YOU BACK
'Cause you’re no good for me I know.
That's all I can do,
Launch my attack!
Forgive my antibodies, but you gotta go.
I don’t want you back.
We started going without a voice.
But I was fine so I lost all my defense.
But there were things that made me realize
Like all the hundred thousand white cell guys.
Don’t want you back!
'Cause you’re no good for me, I know.
That's all I can do,
Launch my attack!
Forgive my antibodies, but you gotta go.
I don’t want you back.
Don't bother showing me your cells divide.
Just let us fight this battle, 'tween you and I.
Don’t want you back, that’s all I know.
All I can say, don't want you back
You know you gotta go.
Don’t want you back!
'Cause you’re no good for me, I know.
That's all I can do,
Launch my attack!
Forgive my antibodies, but you gotta go.
I don’t want you back.
I rewrote this song (Don't Want you Back from Millenium by the Backstreet Boys) round abouts 2009. I'm just a nerd on the inside, and it's quickly taking over my outer image. I hope the government doesn't take me down for mentioning some copyrighted material. Does mentioning your source count for anything these days?
